Market News
General - Markets across the board will be affected by a couple of common factors during August. With the holiday season upon us there is a reduced demand for product through out the catering sector. Breeders and producers are aware of this and reduce their head counts in relation to these levels. This results in availability remain similar to that of the busier periods and so prices remain high. Additionally, all business will be without key personnel, again resulting in company's reluctant to make significant changes in price. Lastly improve farming methods have reduced the affects of the seasons on production, meaning that no longer are there the troughs and gluts in supply which resulted in similar peaks and falls in prices.
Beef - A predominately stable market this month with little or no change in steak cuts compared to last month. Forequarter cuts seem to have reached their lowest price, and are not predicted to fall any more during the summer period.
Lamb - Demand for Lamb this year is high and stocks have been getting low, this has also been exacerbated by the good weather The lovely sun shine that we have been experiencing has ripened winter feed and bedding crops quicker this year. This has resulted in farmers concentrating their efforts on harvesting rather than preparing lambs for market. It is predicted that once these harvest are over, availability of lamb will increase again and as a consequence prices stabilise or possibly drop.
Mutton - Prices look to be remaining  steady for mutton over August. The normal fall in price over the summer is unlikely to be seen due to increased demand across the world and greatly reduced head counts globally, some estimates saying that Australia and New Zealand are down by over a million animals.
Pork - After some recent instability, Pork prices look to be levelling off in the coming month. The demands from Gammon & Ham producers has eased of substantially, and this will only help to stabilise prices more.
Chicken - A surprisingly  stable market this month. Chicken  prices during the summer are normally affected by the weather High temperatures will tend to reduce the weight gain of  a chicken and in some circumstances increase the mortality rate of the birds prior to slaughter. However with improve production methods and breeders subscribing to national and European standards these factors have had a lesser influence on supply and therefore as a result prices stabilise.
Turkey - Prices are still on the increase this month, as breeders continue to try and bring Turkey prices in line with other species However we are trying to maintain our current prices for this month as the breeders will soon start to focus on their Christmas flocks and what price they are aiming for over this critical period for them.
