The company was formed in 1986 as Hutchinson Brothers by four brothers who opened a butchers shop in Kenton North London. It wasn't long after opening that the business really took off but not in the direction originally intended i.e. retail but in catering, supplying local pubs and restaurants. As the business grew it became clear that the shop was not big enough to cope with the work being generated. So a decision was made to close the retail shop and find a premises suitable for a larger catering operation. The new factory in Wembley opened in 1993 and the company became known as British Premium Meats, known by many as BPM. During the 90's the business experienced tremendous growth as more and more customers switched to British Premium Meats. The success of the business can be put down to a number of factors including a first class delivery service with the support of a second delivery option to customers within central London. A strong sales team working closely with an experienced butchery team and most importantly, supplying competitively priced quality meat and poultry. As the customer base grew so did the type of customers the business was attracting. BPM were now being contacted by restaurant chains, hotels and the education sector, which can be broken down in to higher education such as Universities as well as smaller schools and colleges. In 2006 it was clear that the company needed to take a difficult decision as to whether to undergo an expansion plan at Wembley or to move again to new premises.

In 2006 BPM relocated its production and offices to a purpose built 20,000 sq feet building in Welwyn Garden City Hertfordshire. Shortly after the move Wembley was refurbished and now serves as the distribution depot for the business. Since moving to Welwyn the factory has gained BRC accreditation grade A, as well as being issued with an EU cutting plant licence number UK 5522 EC. The Wembley depot has also gained BRC accreditation for distribution depot for the business. The depot is ideally possitioned with excellent road links close by, including the M25, M40,M3,M4 and the M1 all within an hour from Wembley.
